005: From All Day Mimosas To Sobriety

Today’s guest, Jess Kennedy, and I had a great conversation about sobriety and sober living. At the time of this airing, Jess has been sober for 14 months (woot woot!) and we dove into what it was like when she was drinking – how everything was about alcohol (mmm hmm preach it sister, I know this all to well too!) – and how she came to the decision to make changes and that drinking wasn’t serving her any longer.

One of the things I still struggle with sometimes, even after all the time I’ve been sober, is this way of thinking that you’re either an alcoholic or you’re not. Thankfully, my perspective has changed over the years and I am more open to the fact that not everyone who stops drinking is an alcoholic or identifies as one.

That’s why it was so important for me to chat with Jess today and have her share her story – to remind me we each have our own experience when it comes to alcohol. And while Jess isn’t an alcoholic, her story is so similar to mine in so many ways and we each had/have the same end result… living amazing sober lives!

Recommended Self-Help Book:

One of the things I ask my guests (but not talked about in their episode) is if they have a favorite self-help book(s). This is just something I like to know because I’m huge into self-development/self-help and am always on the lookout for more to read. Thought it would be fun to share the recommendations 🙂

  • Jess didn’t suggest a book instead she said, “I love the work Gretchen Rubin has done around habit change.”  (I’m not familiar with her so i’m going to have to look her up!)
