What If You Loved Yourself Fearlessly?

What makes you stand out from the crowd can often be the very thing you struggle to accept.

Am I right?

Yes!

I knew I was ;-)

Kidding aside. How? Because things that make me stand out (my fatness, my loudness, my crazy natural curly hair) - just to name a few - are things I struggled to accept. Things that caused me to hide my true self from the rest of the world but more importantly, myself... for pretty much my entire life, up until October 2018!

October 2018 was a pivotal point in my life. At 43, I had just moved to the West Coast, from a very small town in Northern Michigan, found the body positivity community and met a plus size yoga instructor that gave me "permission" to be myself, to take up space just as I was - fat an all!

That night I walked out of that yoga class with my head held high and started rockin' my awesomeness and not hiding any longer! I did some plus-size modeling, tried a pole dancing class, tried burlesque, started wearing whatever the hell I wanted (finally after years of being told "fat girls can't and shouldn't wear that") and started taking up space boldly, confidently, and most of all unapologetically!

So, let's chat about that whole body positivity thing...

Body positivity is a movement focused on the acceptance of ALL bodies, regardless of size, shape, skin tone, gender, and physical abilities, while challenging present-day beauty standards as an undesirable social construct. Proponents focus on the appreciation of the functionality and health of the body, instead of its appearance. (Source: Wikipedia)

In other words, it has nothing to do with weight (which is one of the biggest misconceptions people have)! Body positivity is about acknowledging this is the skin I’m in and this is who I am. I don’t have to be perfect before I can love myself.

It’s about embracing every aspect of who you are and choosing to show up boldly in a world that conditions you to think you’re not enough and that you should hide.

Body positivity has to start with you embracing yourself first! And that's why I've put together this Embracing Body Positivity Ebook & Journal.
